The Nelson region has three national parks within 90 minutes of each other, with a choice of alpine, coastal or wilderness experiences. It also has two marine reserves and many more wonderful places to explore.
There are more than 350 full-time artists and craftspeople active throughout the Nelson region working in every form of media imaginable. Visit their studios and home galleries or sample the diversity of talent at open-air markets, including Nelson city’s Saturday market in Montgomery Square, where everything from local crafts to regional produce and gourmet foods is sold.
Nelson’s wineries are known internationally and are scattered through two lovely areas, the rolling Moutere hills and the alluvial Waimea Plains. Both of these areas are within minutes of Gladstone Motel, making it the perfect place to stay whilst experiencing the amazing wines of the region.
